about therapy

A representation of the multifaceted nature of the psyche.

“We are not here to fit in, be well balanced, or provide exempla for others. We are here to be eccentric, different, perhaps strange, perhaps merely to add our small piece, our little clunky, chunky selves, to the great mosaic of being. As the gods intended, we are here to become more and more ourselves."

James Hollis

What to expect

Most psychotherapies aim to reduce symptoms like anxiety or depression so that you can get back to your normal functioning. Jungian therapy is, in a sense, completely the opposite: "normal functioning" is assumed to be the problem, symptoms the antidote. Symptoms arise to shake you out of what you have come to call normal because "normal" has become too restrictive, too one-sided, too far removed from your authentic nature and true potential. To eliminate symptoms without understanding why they arose in the first place is to undermine the psyche's natural guiding wisdom, potentially exacerbating the very issues that need the most attention.

Instead of using a bunch of band-aid coping skills to "manage" the symptoms that are meant to shake things up, we'll listen to them, allowing them to guide the process of healing and wholeness by using some of the following methods:

Couples Work

So if you're hoping to get rid of your symptoms but hold onto your normal, this kind of therapy probably isn't for you. It's a long-term journey of psycho-spiritual transformation. It requires earnest soul-searching and a willingness to open oneself to the guiding wisdom of the deep psyche. If you can learn to allow that wisdom to direct real changes in your life, you won't come out of the process the same person you were when you started. You will emerge with a stronger and more resilient sense of self, a deeper connection to your authentic nature, and a renewed sense of wonder and purpose in life.
